Love the look and the sound of the VW.
It’s the only logical choice.

For the purpose of nostalgia, I kinda want a B5 S4 at the same time. Nostalgia for two cars at once....
Since I’ve owned pretty much the equivalent of an S4 over the years. (A B5 S4 and a C5 A6 with the same engine/transmission as an S4.)
sm70- why not Duesenberg?

Audi looks better and goes quicker. Plus Quattro. I’ll take that please.

No manual, unless I pay like some crazy number for a swap.
That being said, I’d still love to have an S8 at that point. When I’m old or something...

R32. A bit more sleeper, and might be slightly less likely to explode.

S4.
They may not be the best to drive but look amazing IMO.

Agreed, they drive well. But to really open them up a shitload, lots of modifications are needed.

R32 walked my ‘03 wrx bugeye wagon. Before I bought it, a slightly used B4 wagon was $4k more than my new ‘03 so I went Subaru and don’t regret it as a working man payin bills. Just happy I was around to experience them all,

R32. I love that car! I know someone with a turbo 2004 R32, it dynoed at 451hp at the wheels. That thing is INSANE when it hits boost. They make drop-in supercharger kits for the R32 these days too.
Depending on who you ask, Quattro may be “better” than the Haldex AWD system in the R32. In stock form it only engages the rear wheels when the car feels that the front wheels are losing grip. But with the Haldex mods that tuners like UM offer these days, you can put 50% power front/rear power distribution at all times. And I think UM has a retune for the Haldex unit in the works that will put over 50% to the rear wheels if you desired.
The exhaust note of even a stock R32 is worth it alone. It sounds like a really angry Wookie. And the seats. OHHHHHH those seats. The best front seats I’ve ever sat in. So nice.
Personally, I don’t think the S4 looks nearly as cool as the R32, but I like hatchbacks over sedans.
And as far as liability goes, I recently met a guy who put 250,000 miles on his stock R32 with only regular maintenance. Every S4 owner I know ended up selling the car after a few months because it ran into way too many problems and reliability issues, in stock form.

If I got an R32, a turbo kit would be on the list for sure.
I’ve heard the same about the AWD system, it doesn’t really bother me too much. But the exhaust note, seats and lots of other stuff is awesome.
And about the S4, as much as I’d like to disagree. I can’t. I sold my 2.7T A6 because it started costing me too much to maintain. You really have to be committed to those cars to care for them properly.

Yeah, from everything I’ve heard about Audi’s, especially S4's, is that they are a bitch to simply maintain. It was problem after problem for a buddy of mine until he finally just downgraded to a 1.8T A4. He only did routine maintenance and it ran like a top, so I’m not here to hate on audis.
Yeah, turbo should be on the top of the list if you go R32. A turbo kit I think is a way better choice than a supercharger, but that’s just because I think turbos are cooler. By buddy’s R32 has 130K+ miles on it and the engine isn’t built or anything, just a head spacer. It is even running and older journal bearing Garret, and it gets the job done just fine. It was one of the first turbo R32's in the states, and he’s been running it for years without many issues. Still gotta make sure you take care of upkeep though.
But oh man, those seats... You need to sit in one if you haven’t already. They are PERFECT. I want an R32 just so I can drive around in those seats. And the pumped-out fenders make the R32 look bad ass. It looks even better with flares!

Depends on how long you were planning to keep it. The R32 is a paragon of virtue, basically the hometown beauty that was raised right. The S4 is more like the big city bad girl with daddy issues. Yeah she’s fun to take for a spin, but she’s completely cukoo and embarrasses you at family functions.

That’s a good way of describing the pair, haha.
I like them both. But having a blue R32 in Midnight Club 3 may have been what made me love Volkswagen products.
On the other hand, the R32 is surely a future classic. While the S4 may not be. The price gap between the R32 and S4 would even out though, as I’d have to do a ton of stuff to get a B5 S4 where I want it.
You guys ever get R32s?

R32 ... I might be am biased since I have a VR6 already. The Haldex vs Torsen debate will go on forever but I’ve adjusted to it and have hooned my car just as much as I ever did the two B5 A4s I had in the past.
I’d say that comparing it to the the Torsen cars it is tougher to get going if stuck in a deep 10-14" drift at work but its still damn good. You sometimes will spin fronts when reversing in deep snow before the power shifts aggressively to the rear but its still decent. I only have a Unitronic stage1+ engine tune and haven’t figured out which route to go on tuning the AWD. I might just get a Haldex Race controller and be done with it. Right now I’m thinking more about spending money on high flow cats.

Have never been stuck in any of the Audi we’ve owned. Was even plowed in up to the hood by guys at work having fun and drove the car out with no digging. Good sets of snow tires have made all of them very invincible winter rides.

I drove straight out of a foot of snow with bald all seasons. Took a little persuasion at first, but it came out alright.

I came here to post withering ridicule, but while it loaded I realized how odd it is that the Golf has a bigger engine by half a liter, AND almost matches the S4's TT V6 in power (240 vs 250?), AND weighs several hundred less while having AWD.
So kudos for the unexpectedly challenging comparison, but I think I’d still take the Audi for upgradeable turbos and non-sideways engine. Man would it be a pain to work on though.

We see about one a week. Either maintenance on well kept ones, or to fix a hack job on some shade tree “customization".

My buddy’s turbo R32 puts 451HP to the wheels. It’s terrifying.
Especially since my Miata puts 100hp to the wheels at a very optimistic guesstimate.
